Adjetivo, no sentido de "real".

Substantivo "a verdade".

"The concert drew a massive crowd of fans. The subway was crowded. The restaurant was so crowded that we had to wait for a table."

Também pode ser usado como "público".

"Strike the iron while it is hot. They were ordered to strike back. She struck him on the nose. The clock has just struck twelve. Whole villages were stricken with the disease. Foreign aid workers will not be allowed into the stricken areas."

Também no sentido de "golpear".

"She has slapped his face hard. The waves slapped against the boat."

Também entendido como "bofetada".

"She said she had an awful experience. It's awfully hot today."

Também pode ser traduzido como "terrível" ou "horrível". Descreve algo que é extremamente ruim, desagradável ou de baixa qualidade.

To be the spitting image of someone. Examples: "He's the spitting image of his mother. It was the spitting image of him. Your son is the spitting image of you."

No sentido de ser muito parecido com outra pessoa, "ser a cópia de alguém".

Conta de serviços públicos, podendo ser de água, luz ou gás. Comprovante de residência.

"He was the apple of her eye, and she promised to take care of him for as long as she could. He loved his daughter very much, she was the apple of his eye. His youngest daughter was the apple of his eye."

"With time, things always get better. Her condition should improve with time. Perceptions change over time. Traditions get established over time. Over time, though, Watson's views gained in popularity. Over time, driving just becomes automatic."

O primeiro enfatiza a mudança gradual que ocorre ao longo de um período de tempo. O segundo enfatiza a passagem do tempo como fator que contribui para algo.

As a verb, we can say "to pull a long face". Examples: "Why do you have such a long face? Don’t pull a long face when I tell you to go to bed. I don’t know what’s troubling him, but he’s been pulling a long face for two days already."

No sentido de "emburrado", "carrancudo" ou "amuado". O verbo seria "ficar de cara amarrada" ou "ficar carrancudo".

"It made sense to appoint a banker to this job. The President appoints the Council of Ministers."

Se refere à ação de atribuir a alguém uma posição, tarefa ou responsabilidade específica.

"He was appointed to a position of trust. They have appointed Smith as the new manager. The time appointed for the meeting was 8 sharp."

"Marcado" quando se trata de horário ou data.

"The stadium was packed for the championship game."

Pode se referir a um local, uma mala ou qualquer objeto que tenha sido preenchido até sua capacidade máxima.
