No sentido de algo ser a causa "fundamental", "a base" ou "o motivo".

"Can you tie up the packages? The meeting tied up my entire afternoon."

"Amarrar, prender": com corda ou algo semelhante. | "Ocupar": estar ocupado com algo.

Como advérbio, significa “em pé” ou “verticalmente”.
