Little has remained of the ancient Tatar since the turn of the century. City architect, Tatyana Prokofyeva, explains to us why this is.

All that remains of the old Tatar neighbourhood, is thus picturesque little village, with its pretty wooden houses, and mosques from the 18th century.

The architect returned to Kazan from the USA, to put an end to the demolishing of historical buildings. Meanwhile, the city began preparing for the football World Cup.
